چکیده

Background Ofloxacin is a second-generation fluoroquinolone that frequently has been prescribed against various bacterial infections. Serious hypersensitivity reactions will increase with high worldwide consumption. There have been few case reports of ofloxacin induced anaphylaxis and its pathogenic mechanism is not well understood. In this study, we investigated pathogenic mechanisms in a 20-year old female patient with ofloxacin induced anaphylaxis. She had suffered from allergic rhinitis sensitive to house dust mites for several years and a previous history of acute urticaria induced by non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs. She developed generalized urticaria and anaphylaxis after oral ingestion of ofloxacin.

Immunologic Evaluation of Patients with Cefotetan-Induced Anaphylaxis

Cefotetan is a commonly prescribed second-generation cephalosporin that acts against a wide range of bacteria. However, cefotetan-induced hypersensitivity has rarely been reported. We report 2 cases of cefotetan-induced anaphylaxis with immunologic evaluation. The first case was a 70-year-old asthmatic woman who had dyspnea and hypotension during administration of cefotetan, in which high serum...

Immunologic Evaluation of Immediate Hypersensitivity to Cefaclor

PURPOSE Cefaclor is widely prescribed for various infectious diseases. As its consumption increases, the number of hypersensitivity reactions to cefaclor has increased. This study aimed to evaluate the immunologic findings of immediate hypersensitivity to cefaclor. MATERIALS AND METHODS We enrolled 47 patients with immediate hypersensitivity to cefaclor from Ajou University Hospital and Asan ...

Decreased expression of CD200R3 on mouse basophils as a novel marker for IgG1-mediated anaphylaxis

IgE-mediated mast cell activation is the trigger of anaphylaxis in humans, whereas it is known that not only IgE but also IgG can induce anaphylaxis in mice. In our preliminary experiments, the expression of a murine basophil identification marker, CD200R3, on antigen-sensitized basophils decreased following specific antigen challenge. Interestingly, this decrease did not always correspond with...

A Case of Korean Ginseng-Induced Anaphylaxis Confirmed by Open Oral Challenge and Basophil Activation Test

Two case reports discussing Korean ginseng-induced allergic reactions have been published; both were inhalation-induced respiratory allergies in occupational settings. In this report we discuss the first case of anaphylaxis that developed after an oral intake of ginseng, confirmed by an open oral challenge, a skin prick test (SPT), and a basophil activation test (BAT). A 44-year-old man experie...

Wine Allergy in a Wine-Growing District: Tolerance Induction in a Patient With Allergy to Grape Lipid-Transfer Protein

BACKGROUND : An IgE-mediated allergy against a lipid-transfer protein of grapes was the cause of repeated severe anaphylaxis in a patient after consumption of grapes, wine, and raisins. OBJECTIVE : Although the patient was aware of her grape allergy, avoidance proved difficult and accidental anaphylaxis occurred. Furthermore, wine allergy in a wine-growing district means a non-negligible rest...
